Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-91) began the composition of a Requiem Mass in Vienna in late 1791. It remained unfinished by the time of his death on 5th December in the same year. At the request of Mozart’s wife, Constanze, the Requiem was completed in 1792 by Franz Xaver Süssmayr, a friend of Mozart .
The circumstances of its composition have lent an element of mystery to this immensely popular work. The Decade of Development Group at St Andrew’s Cathedral is delighted to offer the opportunity of singing such glorious music in a wonderful space and under the direction of a highly distinguished musician. Singers of all ages and every level of experience are welcome to participate. Following an afternoon of rehearsal, there will be a performance open to the public,
Singers are requested to register in advance in one of three ways:
(a) online -- see opposite -- with a suggested donation of £15. (plus booking fee).
